LIMASSOL’S UBER-COOL LONDA HOTEL IS BRACING ITSELF FOR CHAOS AND MAYHEM AS IT WELCOMES BACK FUNNY WOMAN AND SUPREME BUSYBODY SHAZIA MIRZA; HAVE A LAUGH AND HELP RAISE MUCH NEEDED FUNDS FOR THE CYPRUS ANTI-CANCER SOCIETY WHEN SHE RETURNS WITH HER HILARIOUS NEW SHOW ON SEPTEMBER 17TH FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY.
Shazia Mirza, one of the UK’s most talented and adored comediennes returns to her favourite Mediterranean destination, Limassol’s contemporary boutique hotel, the Londa, for a one night only performance on Saturday 17th September at 8.30pm.
Her new show, ‘Busybody’, looks set to astonish the unsuspecting audience yet again; Shazia delivers her acerbic and biting material with a sweet and gracious smile but don’t be fooled. Nobody and nothing will escape her no holds barred attack; sex, politics and religion, with everything in-between is a target for the Shazia treatment.
Her natural self-deprecating style is delightfully fresh; she dares to laugh at herself and her Pakistani culture and lifestyle before anyone else can, provoking shock, thought and discussion from such classic one-liners as “No Muslim man wants to marry me…I speak” or her Post 9/11 opening line that propelled her to international fame “Hi, I’m Shazia Mirza. At least that’s what it says on my pilot’s licence.”
Shazia has performed to sell out audiences in the USA, Scandinavia, Europe, and the UK, including regular stints at the top comedy clubs on the fiercely competitive prestigious London circuit. As well as her acclaimed success as a stand-up comedienne, Shazia’s directness makes her writing just as hilarious as her comedy routine. She was voted Columnist of the Year 2008 (PPA Awards) for her fortnightly column in New Statesman, and she is a featured weekend columnist for The Guardian.
As sponsors of the UK’s Funny Women competition which was originally set up to showcase female talent, the Londa Hotel is thrilled to welcome Shazir back. Jochen Niemann, General Manager explains, “Shazia has a fantastic following here; her last performance at the Londa was a total sell out, we even had to put on a second show, so we’re thrilled that Shazia wanted to return to us for her exclusive appearance in Cyprus.”
Meanwhile Shazia gives us a taste of what’s to come with hints of the new material we can expect to see in her September show. “My business is boring, I much prefer other people’s. I have poked my nose into people’s marriages, deaths, divorces, sex lives and even snooped through 10 Downing Street. I’ve been twitching at my lace curtains for years, now I’m telling all. From stalking people on holiday, to avoiding my parents”.
So for all you unsuspecting Londa Hotel guests and Limassolians in the audience, you have been warned.
