When Fashion needs a showcase location, Londa is the perfect backdrop
Angela Kennedy, the very stylish Style Director from Women & Home magazine was taking a break in the Londa Caprice Bar when we caught up with her last week. She was with her team on their latest shoot for one of the UK’s premier lifestyle publications. Enjoyed every month by over 1 million eager readers, Woman & Home presents concepts of fashion aimed at the over 35s.
Creating the atmosphere
Now on her second visit to Londa, Angela understands what the hotel offers, “We chose the chic Londa Hotel as the perfect location to photograph an all-white fashion story for our June issue.
The Londa’s cool contemporary feel, airy interiors and fabulous sea views gave us the ideal backdrop to show-case our summer fashion story.
The roomy patio, great for chilling out at dusk, provided a relaxed feel for several pictures while the bluer-than-blue swimming pool created an instant dreamy holiday mood.”
Preparing a fashion shoot
It all looks so easy when we see the final result in the pages of a glossy magazine. But as Angela explains, there is a lot of preparation, “We work 3 months ahead so that the garments we shoot now, borrowed from the designer’s PR company, will be on the shelf when the shoot is published.
We also take time to put together a team who will express the mood of the story. For this summer spread we are going for the approachable and sophisticated style.” Very like the Londa, we think!
All in a day’s work
To catch the morning sun, the team were up bright and busy in Caprice, “We enjoyed shooting in the spacious restaurant with its panoramic views and we loved sampling the modern menu – a twist on trad Mediterranean food,” Angela says. “Everyone especially loved the healthy breakfast, which set us all up for our early 7am start.”
Hair and makeup artist Laurence was up two hours earlier to weave his magic on model Nina, and with the stage set, shooting began on the all-white palette of fashion – described by Angela as, “Looks for any woman’s 24/7 wardrobe from brands like Hobbs and M&S to designers like Malene Birger and Michel Kors.”
Tips for 2014 Summer Style
So here are some hot tips from Angela; advice that we can all take to heart, “Less is more is the philosophy – white is always right, clean and minimal and, the big plus factor, white suits everybody.
Nothing looks more expensive. Dress it up with supersized designer sunnies or dress it down with laid back loafers.
Our fashion tip – Feel confident and in control – bring simple separates bang up to date with luxe accessories.”
