We’re all feeling a bit starry-eyed and living in La La Land at the moment! We may not have reached the almost record breaking 14 nominations that the Hollywood blockbuster received but Londa Beach Hotel management and staff are still bowled over that once again, we are up for five World Travel Award categories.
Incredibly, it’s also the 11th year in a row that we’ve been nominated in the internationally recognised industry awards for travel and tourism excellence, often referred to as “the Oscars of the Travel Industry.” You might have thought that after more than a decade of being nominated and winning awards we would be quite adiáforoi!
But we’re not blasé about the news at all. The truth is we still feel incredibly humbled and honoured as the day we received our first nomination for the Cyprus Leading Hotel Award in 2007.
This year, the Londa is nominated for Europe’s Leading Lifestyle Hotel, Mediterranean’s Leading Boutique Hotel, Cyprus’ Leading Boutique Hotel, Cyprus’ Leading Hotel and Cyprus’ Leading Hotel Suite. The categories themselves reflect the pivotal position that the ‘boutique and lifestyle’ concept now occupies across the international luxury hotel marketplace.
Tuned to seeking out the unique travel experience
Since their first appearance in the 1980s, the rise of the lifestyle hotel has been synchronised with the needs and most of all, the aspirations of the new, complex hotel guest. It’s no secret that 21st century consumer lifestyles have raised the bar for the entire hotel industry.
Just in the first two months of 2017 alone, of nearly 145,000 international visitors to Cyprus, 45,000 were from the UK but more than 28,000 hailed from Russia, and 18,600 from the Gulf states (Statistical Service of Cyprus, CYSTAT). Clearly this island remains a stepping stone for the enigmatic and the serendipitous, the desired ingredients of boutique and lifestyle experiences.
The tastes of the discerning global explorer are increasingly tuned to seeking out the unique travel experience, where narrative and lifestyle meet history and modern sensibilities. The Londa hotel itself is uniquely located at an evocative meeting place between historic and modern Cyprus.
A short walk away reveals the gleaming majesty of Limassol Marina opened in 2014, boasting a capacity for 1,000 superyachts, but only a few hundred metres from the medieval Limassol Castle. Time’s arrow looks back over its shoulder as once again, nearby to the Londa, the gods and goddesses of Egypt, Greece and Rome can still be glimpsed among the Amathus ruins of Aphrodite’s temple and the 2nd Century BC Greco-Roman theatre at Kourion.
The hotels themselves have become the celebrities
Every considered detail in boutique hospitality is aimed to intrigue and fascinate as guests are irresistibly seduced into a total, immersive, wellness experience. It’s no coincidence that the vast bowl of the Mediterranean continues to bring from all four corners of the globe, the urbane but always curious traveller back to explore. The defining features of boutique hotel exclusivity are often reflected in the offerings of the local environment fused with design concept and unique lifestyle facilities.
Undoubtedly, the hotels themselves have increasingly become the celebrities, which in turn makes guests feel special and part of an exclusive club. We must have been doing something right at the Londa to be nominated every year in so many obviously important categories!
We have always striven to ensure our bespoke customer service is always on-point with the individual aspirations of the international leisure and pleasure seeker. Our in-house Caprice Restaurant, has gained a serious reputation for offering authentic Mediterranean vitality served with left field culinary chic. Meanwhile, personal wellbeing is gently soothed to a burnished glow with every touch at a Londa Spa pampering session.
So, once again, we wait with fingers crossed for the awards to be announced, which will take place on September 30th at a Europe Gala Ceremony in St. Petersburg, Russia. Voting is now open until August 6th. Travel professionals, hotel visitors and guests can cast their vote on www.worldtravelawards.com/vote
