If you’re visiting Cyprus, luxury hotels are ideal for a treat – but if you stay in one of the best hotels in Cyprus, what can you expect?

What can you expect from the best hotels in Cyprus?

Having been welcoming visitors to Limassol for many years, of course we’ll be quick to tell you that Cyprus holidays are the best; hotels in Cyprus such as the uber-chic Londa Beach Hotel offer many incentives for the discerning traveller. With so many things to do in Cyprus, luxury hotels are merely one aspect of your stay – but when you start to delve a little deeper, you’ll see that the place you choose as your base for your holiday accounts for a large part of your overall enjoyment.

One of the biggest things that draw holidaymakers to our shores year after year is the incredible Mediterranean sun that beats down on the island day after day through every season. However, while you may be joining us to top up your tan and soak up the healing effects of its rays, there are many things we can offer aside from the beautiful weather.

Here in Cyprus, luxury hotels offer some sensational spa treatments

Being multiple award-winners isn’t the only thing that makes us one of the best hotels in Cyprus; our luxury spa is all the motivation you need to head out from your sumptuous room or sea view suite, the morning after a long evening of socialising with some fresh, fruity cocktails at the bar. If you think the sun has healing properties then just wait till you try an all over massage or a rejuvenating facial administered by one of our qualified and friendly therapists. Our staff are trained to get to the very heart of what will bring you the greatest benefits, so they can recommend a fantastic program of treatments that will leave you feeling better than new.

It’s not just the staff in the spa that will lavish you with amazing service either – we have cherry picked the very best that the Cypriot service industry has to offer, and every member of our staff will be at your disposal should you need anything extra to make your stay ultra special. In fact several of our loyal staff have been a part of the ‘Londa Experience’ for many years and enjoy nothing more than welcoming back the familiar faces of our many repeat guests as well as newcomers to our hotel.

The best hotels offer the best chefs

Another treat that’s in store for you when you visit our hotel is some true gourmet dining – some of the very best in Cyprus! Luxury hotels are renowned for their top quality chefs and the incredible dishes that they serve up to their valued diners and having newly appointed Italian executive chef, Giovanni Caracciolo on board, means ours is no exception. After a day of exploring the Troodos Mountains, enjoying some watersports activities, visiting Limassol town, or exploring any one of the incredible archaeological wonders in the local area, what could be better than a revitalising shower in your en-suite facilities followed by a tantalising and delectable meal in our 5 star Caprice restaurant?

We could talk at even greater length about all of the wonders that you can experience here at the Londa Beach Hotel, one of the very best hotels in Cyprus – but we don’t want to spoil the surprise, so why not come and see for yourself?!

Cyprus beach holidays have a lot going for them, and in Cyprus, luxury hotels can be found to add that extra something special.

The best thing about Cyprus? Beach holidays for sure!

When searching for a gorgeous holiday destination, you should definitely investigate Cyprus. Luxury hotels, a rich cultural tapestry and some of the best weather in the world makes our island a wonderful place for any traveller to visit. Of course we’re biased – but then again, over 2 million tourists a year can’t be wrong!

So, what type of holidays are the most popular here in Cyprus? Beach holidays of course! With weather suitable for coastal fun almost all the year round, our beaches are perfectly equipped for everyone. With around 50 blue flag beaches you’ll know our beaches are safe and clean.

Beach holidays mean lots of water sports

A Cyprus beach holiday also comes with the ubiquitous water sports. The banana boat is a real winner and jet skis are amazing fun too. For those who are just as happy under the waves, our island boasts one of the best dive wrecks in the world, so you can have some scuba adventures with fully qualified instructors – they cater for all abilities and ages.

It would be remiss not to whisper a word of caution though – Cyprus beach holidays can leave you vulnerable to too much sun, so make sure you’ve got the right level of sun protection for your needs. We’d recommend starting with a factor 30 while you adjust to the soaring temperatures. Always make sure you’ve got cover-up clothes, sunglasses and a hat too – and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. An ice cream, beer or cocktail can also be lovely and refreshing, but keep your alcohol consumption moderate in the midday sun!

In Cyprus, luxury hotels welcome travellers from all over the world

Statistics show that around 50% of the travellers who visit Cyprus are from the UK – and who can blame them?! With the British Isles being famous for their wet and grey weather, Cyprus’ luxury hotels make a welcome break from the clouds and the chance to top up that vitamin D. We also find that we welcome many other European tourists, Russians and Americans too – our sunny shores are also frequented by some pretty substantial superstars; Mariah Carey and Peter Andre are big fans!

So whether you’re visiting Cyprus for its luxury hotels or have your heart set on action packed Cyprus beach holidays, you know you’re in good company! So pack your sun cream, grab your wetsuit and dive into a Cypriot dream!

Limassol in June is a hive of festival activity and perfect weather for basking in the sun and swimming in the warm, clear waters of the Mediterranean sea.

Cyprus Celebrates – Limassol in June

If you need ideas for your holidays this year, look no further. Limassol, the second largest and beautiful port city of Cyprus, has it all.
If you plan to holiday in June and you’re interested to find out what Cyprus and Limassol in particular has to offer at this time of year please read on…
First and foremost the weather, undoubtedly at the top of everyone’s holiday list of priorities. Not surprisingly, the sun worshippers among you certainly won’t be disappointed. Limassol in June averages a very cosy 24⁰C, reaching highs of 27⁰C plus, perfect for basking in the sun so be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen!
June is an extremely dry month, it is unusual to see any rainfall at this time of year and with average water temperatures of 24⁰C the beaches are full of sea swimming enthusiasts.

Limassol – the City of Fun

Limassol or Lemesos is commonly referred to as ‘the city of fun’ by locals and in June it is alive with festivals. In fact a really great way to stay cool is to partake in a unique Cyprus celebration known as the festival of the flood, a Greek Orthodox festival relating back to the tale of Noah’s Ark. Kataklysmos, as it is known locally is still celebrated with great passion every year in Cyprus.
The coastal towns of Cyprus host this three day weekend event each year, fifty days after Greek Orthodox Easter.
The first official event takes place as a priest casts a crucifix into the sea and divers compete to retrieve it. The winner and first to return the cross to the priest, receives a blessing.
Then the fun begins…
The festival in Limassol is spread over almost 2km of coastal road with stalls selling toys and vast amounts of delicious traditional food. Water games and competitions are organised and dancing and singing entertainers perform every night. The main accessory for children on this day is a water gun, filled to capacity so expect to get caught in the cross fire as the water fights begin!
The throwing of water onto one another is symbolic of purifying the soul but of course it is also a great way to keep cool in the hot Cyprus sun and lots of fun too!
You won’t see this celebration anywhere else in the world so if you really want to see the real Cyprus, don’t miss it!
Also taking place in June on the 8th is the eighth Cyprus Russian festival. Every year more than 10,000 people gather in Limassol to celebrate the unique relationship between Russia and Cyprus. The festivities include performances and shows by Russian and Cypriot groups and organisations. Also on the agenda are competitions, activities and outdoor games, great fun for all nationalities and ages. The day includes a gala concert performance by a famous Russian singer and in true celebratory style ends with a spectacular firework display.
Another unforgettable experience is the Shakespeare festival held in the stunning setting of the ancient amphitheatre. Take in the breathtaking views whilst absorbing the finest of cultural experiences. Although you might be advised to take a cushion to alleviate the effects of the ancient stone seating, we’re sure you’ll agree that such a tremendous experience is well worth the minor discomfort.

The Londa Experience

Lastly, but undeniably not least, we have our own special events being organised at the Londa Hotel this June. Back by popular demand, the infamous Jazzy Brunch returns to our elegant 5 star Caprice restaurant. Delicious food accompanied by phenomenal entertainment guarantees a good time to be had by all. This event is planned for the beginning of June so do check back soon for the confirmed date and to make your reservation.
For the second year running the Londa will be hosting a very stylish charity event. ‘High Heels for High Tea – Go Chic for Charity’ was a great success last year. Combining the delectable treats of a traditional English high tea with the elegant setting of the Caprice’s cool Italian styled interior, all in aid of Fundraising, a Limassol based charity which aims to fulfil the basic needs of families and children in need of support.
So ‘put your glad rags on’ and join us for a relaxed and informal afternoon where you’ll find it’s never been so easy to relax and have fun whilst fundraising. Look out for more information on all upcoming Londa events here.
Londa events are extremely popular so be sure to keep checking back for more details and book early to avoid disappointment.
See you there!

If you like to explore on your holidays May could be the ideal time for a visit to Limassol in Cyprus. Warm enough for exploring but not too hot to leave the cooling comfort of the poolside.

The Beauty of Holidays in Limassol, Cyprus in May

The month of May generally signifies the start of the long Cyprus summer season. Many would consider this time of year to be an ideal, if not the best time to visit this splendidly sunshiny island and furthermore, Limassol, centrally located and home to many a holidaymaker’s favourite luxury boutique hotel The Londa, is one of the top tourist destinations in the world, not least for its inviting Mediterranean climate and its numerous soft sandy beaches.

With temperatures averaging 20⁰C and reaching highs of 24⁰C plus, Limassol in May can be described as warm, sunny and delightful! Warm enough that exploring is a pleasure but not so hot that the mere thought of doing anything more exerting than lounging by the pool simply cannot be entertained. If the idea of immersing yourself in Mediterranean waters appeals, you’ll be pleased to learn that the crystal clear Med is also quite warm at this time of year and here at the Londa of course we have our very own beach at your convenience.

Visitors to Limassol in May could also be in for a very special treat as you are likely to experience the Lemesos Anthestiria Festival, or as it is more commonly known, the Limassol Flower Festival. This spectacular event celebrates the return of Spring and the rebirth of man and nature. The word Anthestiria originates from the Greek word which means flower. The event features shows, exhibitions and flower markets but the main focus and attraction is the flower parade where stunningly decorated floats fill the streets and flowers are handed out to the public. The chariots are lavishly decorated with beautiful flowers and many people dress in costume to join in the parade. Traditionally children on the floats throw flowers to onlookers.
We also have the Orthodox Easter celebrations taking place in May as the Easter Saturday and Sunday fall on the 4th and 5th of May this year. Considered the most important religious event of the year, Cypriots from all over the island take a break from working life to celebrate in true Cypriot style and as always, everyone is welcome whether Cypriot or not.

Here at the Londa, we’ll be serving a delicious traditional Holy Saturday After Mass Breakfast and Easter Sunday Lunch Buffet at our fabulous 5 star Caprice Restaurant and Bar. For more details or to make a reservation please click here.

If like many happy holidaymakers you have been lucky enough to spend a holiday in Limassol, Cyprus in the delightfully sunny (but not quite sun worshipper weather) month of May we would love to hear from you about your experience of the famously friendly Cypriot hospitality and festivities. If you have images that you would like to share please forward to info@londahotel.com giving permission for us to share your Cyprus Holiday experiences on our website and or social media where appropriate.
We look forward to reading all about the wonderful times you have had on your Cyprus holidays and if you are visiting us again this year or indeed for the first time, we look forward to welcoming you as a guest at the Londa!

Londa Spa – Massage is Much More Than a Luxury!

A spa experience is no longer considered to be simply a self pampering moment nor can it be seen as a luxury to be indulged only once in a while on those special occasions. In fact studies continue to prove both the physical and emotional benefits of regular massage treatments. As research proves the healing effects of massage it is being increasingly recommended by health care professionals to complement traditional medicine.
Tremendous benefits can be achieved through regular massage therapy and not just as a proven and effective means of relaxation and stress relief.

Some of the ways that massage can help to improve an individual’s health include:
- Reducing heart rate and blood pressure
- Reducing stress and tension
- Strengthening of the immune system
- Increase circulation and lymph flow
- Help to relieve tension, sinus and migraine headaches
- Relieves chronic and temporary pain
- Improves flexibility
- Increases levels of serotonin, protecting against depression, and endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers
- Prevents sports injuries and increases athletic performance

In fact, what a lot of people may not realise is that regular massage therapy also alleviates conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, bronchitis, arthritis, asthma and much more besides.
The art of massage has been practiced for thousands of years and today you can choose from among very many different styles and techniques.
At the Londa Spa you really will find yourself spoilt for choice. We are totally devoted to your overall wellbeing through a variety of professional services that encourage and promote the renewal and revitalisation of mind, body and spirit.

Greek Orthodox Easter falls in May this year and is a time of much rejoicing and celebration in Cyprus. There’s no better time to enjoy a holiday on this beautiful island.

Easter in Cyprus

Of all the religious festivals in Cyprus, Easter or ‘Pascha’, pronounced pas-ha, is the most sacred. Greek Orthodox Easter falls in May this year and Cypriots will come together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with many religious rituals, singing, dancing and magnificent feasts.

Cyprus Easter Traditions

Traditionally there is a period of fasting before Easter that starts during Carnival time and is called ‘Apokria’. Week one of Apokria is known as ‘Kreatini’ or Meat Week and week two, ‘Tyrini’ or Cheese Week. Each of these weeks respectively should be the last time that either meat, cheese and other dairy products are eaten before Easter. However, officially fasting begins on Green Monday which is a public holiday in Cyprus and picnics and kite flying are enjoyed by all.
On March 18th, the official date for Green Monday this year, the Londa Beach Hotel was pleased to offer a sumptuous Green Monday Lunch at our ultra stylish 5 star, award winning Caprice Restaurant. A delicious buffet of dips, vegetables, salads and traditional desserts were on the menu, with the option to include either cuttlefish or fresh fish platter, all expertly prepared by our newly appointed Italian Executive Chef, Giovanni Caracciolo. Needless to say this delicious feast went down a treat with our guests!

Holy Week

As Easter draws near an air of excitement and festivity will embrace Cyprus’ towns and villages, an atmosphere of expectation will become apparent. The Easter celebrations themselves will begin on the day before Palm Sunday, known as the ‘Saturday of Lazarus’. This is the day when children will go door to door collecting eggs and money. On Palm Sunday churchgoers will take home crosses made from palm leaves which they will keep for the rest of the year.
Thursday of Holy Week is the day the eggs are hardboiled and dyed. Eggs that are dyed red symbolise the resurrection of Christ, the colour red representing the blood of Jesus and the egg the birth of new life. The dyed eggs will then be proudly displayed in bowls and baskets until Easter Sunday.
Good Friday, or ‘Megali Paraskevi’ as it is known in Cyprus, is the day of mourning the death of Christ. In the evening the ‘Perifora Epitafios’ takes place, a candlelit procession of a decorated bier or coffin. The streets will overflow with people joining the procession as it winds its way through the streets to church. It really is a wonderful sight to see; flowers and perfume are thrown onto the Epitafios along the way.
On Holy Saturday food will be taken to church to be blessed by the priest and at midnight there’ll be much celebration and rejoicing of the ‘Anastasis’, the Resurrection of Christ. Church bells will ring and candles will be lit, both inside and outside of church.
Finally, the forty days of fasting since Green Monday will be broken by the eating of a delicious lemony lamb soup called Magiritsa, enjoyed with traditional Easter bread and Flaounes, traditional Cyprus Easter cakes.
Greek Easter Sunday, which is the 5th of May this year, will see the traditional Easter Sunday service and the eggs that were hardboiled and dyed on Easter Thursday will be tapped against each other. Whoever is left with an uncracked egg is said to enjoy good luck throughout the year. The tradition of breaking the eggs is symbolic of Christ breaking free from the tomb. Everyone will rejoice with the words ‘Christos Anesti’, Christ has risen and the reply ‘Alithos Anesti’, truly he has risen.
Easter in Cyprus is considered the most important religious event of the year. A time where most Cypriots will take a break from working life in order to celebrate with the vigour and enthusiasm that brings out the colourful and joyful aspects of Cypriot life. In true Cypriot style the frivolity continues into Tuesday evening in village squares and churchyards, with traditional food, games and Cypriot music. Everyone is welcome, whether Cypriot or not!
Why not join us for Greek Easter this year? It’s a lovely time of year to visit Cyprus, not only for the friendly welcome you’ll receive from the locals and the delicious food; the weather is glorious, but not too hot, perfect to explore and discover our beautiful island.

The Londa is the ultimate venue for meetings, conferences and seminars. Needless to say, Cyprus itself provides the ideal location, boasting fabulous weather virtually year round and beautiful, breathtaking scenery.

Successful Conference Organising

The Londa hotel is perfect for your Cyprus holidays, especially if being surrounded by sumptuous, luxurious surroundings and being pampered to your heart’s content is your idea of heaven. But we’re not here only for rest, relaxation and pamper packages.
The Londa is also the ultimate venue for meetings, conferences and seminars. Needless to say, Cyprus itself provides the ideal location, boasting fabulous weather virtually year round and beautiful, breathtaking scenery. Combine that with a quality hotel like the Londa, offering excellent accommodation and a comprehensive range of fantastic conference facilities and you really are set to impress. Your colleagues will be in awe of your conference organising skills!

To help you along the way we have extended our top tips for unforgettable events:

There is absolutely no doubt that all successful conference meetings and events stem from thorough organisation and planning. So top of the list for hosting a successful event, no matter how small or large is to have a meticulously detailed plan in place. Plan, plan and plan…
You should always begin by defining your target audience, your aims and your objectives. This will give you an initial rough idea of your required budget so that you can then look to identify sources of income and a tip for estimating number expectations for your conference is to look at any previous conferences and events that you or your company has organised in the past.

Guest Speakers

Next on your list should be your keynote speakers and other individuals. These should always be relevant and of interest to your prospective attendees. And don’t forget to account for guest travel and accommodation needs in your budget. Also, bear in mind that your chosen speaker’s availability may dictate the date or dates of your event, so be prepared to be flexible wherever possible.

Deciding on a Venue

When determining where to hold your conference meeting or event there are a few things to consider. For example, exactly where, in your local area or further afield, overseas perhaps for that added impact? Are you looking for suitability for just a day meeting or event or are you looking at full residential requirements?
Catering requirements are another extremely important consideration and if accommodation is a factor, how many and what type of rooms need to be made available? By far your best option is to create a shortlist of suitable venues and to visit them wherever possible to do so. Obviously it may not always be possible to visit an overseas venue but be sure to check reviews and testimonials and maybe even ask for contact details of previous companies who have made use of their facilities in the past. Once you have decided on the perfect venue be sure to book and confirm as soon as possible to ensure you get your first choice.

Making an Impact

Two key moments most likely to stick in the minds of those attending your event are the all important opening and closing. These two aspects should be considered extremely carefully. Ask yourself what impressions and key messages you want people to take away with them.
You should encourage points of interaction throughout the event, which will add variety to the day rather than delegates having to sit through presentation after presentation. Think carefully about timings and be sure to put together a concise running order so that your venue, your speakers and of course you, know what is happening when and who is responsible and don’t forget to include those all important contact details in case they are needed on the day.

All work and no play

Of course the best conferences and events incorporate a combination of work and play. Down time is really important to boost energy levels and retain interest. This is a chance for your delegates to mingle, relax and take part in any team building activities that might also be on the agenda.
And where better than this glorious Mediterranean island to indulge in the sunshine, great food and the many activities available. What’s more our home town of Limassol is the perfect central location, less than an hour’s drive from other major towns on the island. There’s so much to do and see, that is of course if you can bring yourself to be separated from the comfort and luxury of our hotel!
If you have been tasked with planning a conference or event and Cyprus just happens to be on your shortlist of locations, or you are visiting or are based in Cyprus and are looking for the perfect place to hold a meeting please do get in touch. Take advantage of the conference facilities here at the Londa and we’ll ensure you have everything you need to make your event a memorable one.

Home to one of the best wreck dives in the world, Cyprus is an ideal place for diving enthusiasts. Spend the day on an underwater adventure, then relax and indulge yourself in sheer luxury at our luxury hotel.

Activities on Your Cyprus Holidays – Scuba Diving in Limassol

Cyprus’ location in the eastern Mediterranean and its typically Mediterranean climate of hot summers and mild winters makes it an ideal destination for diving enthusiasts and beginners alike.
Cyprus provides one of the longest dive seasons in the Med and with water temperatures ranging from 18⁰C (64⁰F) in January to 27⁰C (81⁰F) in July, although a drysuit may be necessary during November through to March, a thin wetsuit would likely be suitable for the majority of the year.
Cyprus is a great place to learn to dive, offering basic sites as well as the more adventurous tunnels, caves and wrecks. The area boasts great visibility of 20 – 35m plus nearly all year round, making it easy to view the abundance of antiquities that make Mediterranean diving unique, although be aware that the sensitivity of such remains means just that, strictly look but do not touch!

Dive Sites in the Limassol Area

Indigenous life flourishes among rocky shorelines and outcrops all around this strikingly beautiful island, providing an ideal home for an array of sea life, including octopus, crustaceans and various species of fish. Precious green and loggerhead turtles are also regular visitors, especially in breeding season.
For those of you joining us here in Limassol for your holidays, there are a number of interesting dive sites around the area, suitable for beginners through to advance divers.
- Copper Wreck is a British Man O’ War with a copper-bottomed hull that sank on the reef of the western tip of the Akrotiri peninsula. Although not much trace of the original wreck can be seen, you can find regular bolts of copper and brass and nails embedded in pieces of the hull. You’ll also find caves and arches as well as various species of fish.
- Pharses II Wreck, at less than 1000 tonnes this open deck twin-hatched cargo ship lies on its starboard side. This ship went down not far from Limassol harbour during a storm in 1980. It lies practically intact some 21 metres underwater. There is an abundance of marine life to be found here and it is even possible to enter the ship but only under strict supervision.
- Akrotiri Fish Reserve offers a fascinating opportunity to interact with the local marine life. A very shallow dive suitable for all divers, at some 9 metres. You can hand feed groupers, moray eels, bream and bass and admire the octopus.
Other dive sites in the Limassol area include:
- The Three Stars ship, a vessel that ran aground after catching fire in 1972
- Big Country, a great multi level site with many caves, overhangs and large boulders
- M.V. Habe Wreck, a 1000 tonne barge semi-submerged against Limassol harbour wall
- Various coves, rocks, caverns, caves, archways and pinnacles too
- Often used for advanced course wreck and night dives is the M/Y Diana, a 50’ Russian owned yacht which foundered and settled upright on the seabed back in 1996. If underwater photography is your thing then this is the site for you, boasting many large squid and shoals of fish.
- Of course, there is one wreck that the really serious divers visit Cyprus to explore and that’s the Zenobia; a large roll-on-roll-off ferry that sank approximately half a mile from Larnaca during its maiden voyage from Sweden to Syria.
Reputed to be one of the best wreck dives in the world it is well worth the visit and only a relatively short journey from Limassol, taking roughly forty five minutes by car. Indeed Limassol is the ideal location for your diving holiday, positioned approximately half way between Paphos and Larnaca, allowing ample opportunity to experience the variety of dive sites across the island.

Relax in luxurious surroundings after a long day of exploration

As the 2012 Leading Boutique Hotel in Cyprus, you’ll find no better place than the Londa to relax after your day of underwater adventures. On your return, simply indulge yourself in the sheer luxury of your surroundings and feast on the delectable delights on offer in our Caprice Restaurant and Bar, the perfect opportunity to rebuild your energy levels in anticipation of your next day of adventures exploring our beautiful island!

Exploring Cyprus – a look into the past

Glorious beaches, local tavernas, boutique hotels and bustling markets are many of the attractions for holidaymakers visiting any of the main city destinations in Cyprus. However, for those centring their holidays around the coastal city of Limassol, it’s the perfect opportunity to shun the modern day madness maybe just for a little while and step back in time to ancient days when Romans ruled the land.

As you would expect from a stay in any luxury hotel, in Cyprus, in particular, our very own Londa Hotel of course, you’ll be able to take advantage of the famous Cypriot hospitality and ask the staff to help you organise the essential tourist day trip to Kourion. Founded in the 12th century BC, this ancient Roman settlement has a myriad of different places to explore that will satisfy even the hardest to please history hunter.

The wonders of an historical city

The ruins and sites of the town are situated at the top of the coastal cliffs, offering incredible vistas out over the Mediterranean Sea – and while initially settled by Greek conquerors, this is just the beginning of the story. Eventually, the Romans came to Cyprus and this prime location was chosen as one of many settlements – the people soon set to work, creating incredible buildings such as temples and villas in the style so specific to this extraordinary and inventive race of people.

Although there is plenty to see here, the ancient amphitheatre is probably the most recorded image that you see when researching the site on the Internet. Thankfully, visitors now have the chance to watch live events here once more – well worth booking a ticket for the current theatrical or musical performance at the time of your stay.

Something for the art lover too

As well as the amphitheatre, Kourion is also famous for its beautiful mosaics – the most famous of which can be found in the House of Eustolios, a public recreation centre that was originally a sumptuous villa for one of the city’s wealthy inhabitants. Incredibly, these ancient examples of artwork have been preserved so well that they almost look as if they’ve only recently been placed here.

Those with an engineering mind may be interested in visiting the bath house, which plays host to a fine example of an under floor heating system which is much less primitive than you would imagine. Two more houses are also well known for their mosaic floors and internal decoration – those of the Gladiators and Achilles. You should also make sure you visit the Temple of Apollo – though if you are a real follower of history, make sure you don’t touch its altar as the punishment was being thrown into the sea from on top of the cliffs! You can also wander around the old marketplace, visit the ancient stadium and marvel at the incredibly decorated pieces of stonework that scatter the entire area – so don’t forget, as a guest of the Londa Hotel we will be delighted to help you in any way we can to make your stay as memorable and interesting as possible.
So… take the chance to step back into history but don’t worry we will be here on your return to pamper to your every need in true Cypriot style!

Visit Cyprus during one of many cultural celebrations and make your holiday even more special. This week’s Epiphany in Germasogeia, Limassol takes place at the Londa Hotel.

Epiphany Celebrations in Germasogeia, Limassol

There are many festivals that take place on this magnificent Mediterranean island throughout the year that you really should experience on your holidays in Cyprus. This year in particular, we have a very special event occurring right on the doorstep of the Londa Beach Hotel.
Taking place on the shore alongside the Londa on the 6th January 2013 is a huge tradition in the Greek Orthodox Church known as the Epiphany or Theophany, meaning ‘vision of God’ and is celebrated on a number of Southern coastal towns in Cyprus. The event marks the revelation of God in the human form as Jesus Christ and falls on the last day of the twelve days of Christmas, starting on Christmas day and ending on Epiphany.

Here in Germasogeia, the local priest, together with the Mayor of Germasogeia and other officials will visit the breakwater on the beach of the Londa hotel to perform what is known as the ‘Great Blessing of Water’.
The blessing is performed before casting a large cross into the water, doves are released and boats sound their horns in recognition of the event. Local citizens are then invited to enter the water to recover the cross.

The first to return it to the priest receives a special blessing and it is believed that they and their family will be blessed with good luck for the remainder of the year. After mass the priest will visit local houses and sprinkle holy water on the people.
On the eve of Epiphany the cooking of ‘loukoumades’ is customary, a dessert similar to doughnuts which are thrown onto the roofs on Epiphany or Theophany day. This sweet desert is believed to feed the bugbears or evil spirits and encourage them to eat and go back to where they came from.

To Cypriots family, friends and festivals are taken extremely seriously. Famous for their friendly and fun-loving disposition they love to entertain visitors to the island, therefore, booking your holiday around one of the many wonderful festivals throughout the year is sure to make your Cyprus holiday unforgettable.

Furthermore, spend your holiday here with us at the Londa, recently voted the Meditteranean’s Leading Boutique Hotel 2012 and enjoy the holiday of a lifetime!

Contact us for more information about the Epiphany celebrations and look out for news of the many Festivals and events that will be taking place in and around Limassol throughout this coming New Year.
May we also take this opportunity to wish all of our customers past, present and future a very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year!
We look forward to seeing you soon!

“Great food is as a work of art…” so says Giovanni Caracciolo, the new, recently appointed Executive Chef for the Caprice restaurant at Limassol’s Londa Hotel.

22ND OCTOBER 2012
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION

FROM LA SCALA OPERA HOUSE TO THE CAPRICE, NEWLY ARRIVED ITALIAN EXECUTIVE CHEF, GIOVANNI CARACCIOLO, SETS IMPRESSIVE STANDARDS OF FINE ITALIAN CUISINE FOR LIMASSOL’S AWARD-WINNING LONDA BOUTIQUE HOTEL

“Great food is as a work of art…” so says Giovanni Caracciolo, the new, recently appointed Executive Chef for the Caprice restaurant at Limassol’s Londa Hotel. And Giovanni should know; the talented Italian Chef has hot-footed it to the Caprice from La Scala Opera House in Milan, via Capana in Athens’ Kolonaki district, to bring an air of authentic Italian passion to the Caprices’ new creations. The menu has been renewed and refreshed and already the tasteful and tasty creations are generating enormous positive attention.

Giovanni’s love affair with food began from a very early age; at 8 years old he was happier preparing traditional French onion soup in his mother’s kitchen than playing with friends; by the time he left school at 18 he was determined to be a chef. His hard work and dedication paid off and by the tender age of just 23 (a mere novice in gastronomy circles), Giovanni was appointed 2nd Chef at one of Milan’s most celebrated 4-star establishments. “The Executive Chef at the time was 65, so yes, I guess it was quite an achievement.”

Giovanni’s philosophy for creating delicious food, “It must be simple, beautiful, tasty,” has become the Caprice mantra. “I want my team to ‘feel’ the food, not just prepare it.” The menu may be new but it remains traditionally and authentically Italian, using only the finest ingredients with all foods freshly prepared on site. New additions include ‘Aubergine soufflé with caprino cheese fondue and sautéed langoustine in basil,’ ‘Ravioli with bufala, butter and marjoram on a cream of pistachio,’ ‘Chicken breast, in a sweet and sour sauce, with pine kernels, raisins and fresh spinach’ and of course the beloved pasta and risotto dishes Italian cuisine is renowned for, ‘Risotto a la Milanese’ just one of the classics on offer.

Jochen Niemann, general manager at the Londa Hotel is delighted with the changes introduced by Chef Giovanni. “Our Caprice guests are very happy with the new menu; Giovanni’s natural flair and creativity in the kitchen has already made a dramatic impact.”

Giovanni has perfectly captured the chic ambience of the Londa with his newly styled, on trend contemporary menu; “For me, creating food is like creating a great painting.” And with the perfect backdrop of the alluring Mediterranean Sea views, it seems the boutique hotel’s urbane and discerning clientele agree; the Caprice restaurant has never been so busy.

ends –

If you’re staying with us at the Londa Beach Hotel, take a day to explore the beautiful Troodos Mountains, a short trip from Limassol

Explore the Troodos Mountains during your stay in Limassol

One of the big attractions of staying in Limassol has to be a trip to the magnificent Troodos Mountains. Many of our guests who have chosen an adventure in Cyprus for their annual holiday want to investigate the mountains as a day trip or even a mini-break during their stay. An adventure into the more rural part of the island provides a sometimes welcome escape from the busy cities and popular beaches – along with the opportunity to cool down in the refreshing mountain air!

While relaxing in the lap of luxury that our hotel offers is a fantastic treat, if you want to experience the more rugged aspect of the area, you can get the bus directly from Limassol to Troodos Square. There’s a fantastic choice of resorts if you want to stay for a night or two so that you can really make the most of what the mountains and the National Park can offer.

Troodos attractions and facts

The highest point of the range is Mount Olympus – not to be confused with the mountain of the same name in Greece, which is reputed to have been the home of the gods. For those visiting from Limassol, the most accessible part of the region brings you to charming village communities and beautifully scented pine forests, where you can take a nature trail, hire a mountain bike or simply relax and sample some of the home grown wine.

If you’re a lover of architecture, there are plenty of beautiful Byzantine monasteries and churches to be found here too. Built within the peaks and valleys of the area, these locations were chosen for the security they offered as opposed to the coastline which was under threat of invasion. The mountain range is famous around the world for its incredible geological features, and was born from the collision between the tectonic plates of Africa and Europe, pushing the range up from beneath the sea and creating the incredible island that we now call home.

The Troodos climate

Temperatures vary quite considerably depending on the time of year and the part of the mountain range that you visit; in the summer, temperatures can still reach in the high 20s while in colder months you can grab a snowboard or pair of skis and take the fast route down the snowy peaks! The air is thinner the higher up you go, making even the hotter months much more tolerable than the fiery temperatures down on the beaches.

Wherever you venture into the mountains you will always be greeted by spectacular scenery and views. If you want to experience something completely different from the luxury of our boutique hotel, you can even pitch a tent and camp out under the stars. When you wander back down to your comfy room at the Londa Beach Hotel, we’ll have a hot cup of coffee and a gastro meal ready to recharge your batteries!

The Londa explores the many benefits of massage and why making the most of treatments during your spa holiday makes good health-sense

Spa holidays and the benefits of massage

Spa holidays are a time for relaxing and unwinding – but aside from the pampering aspect, there are many physical and emotional benefits of massage that you can gain while enjoying a treatment or two here at the Londa.

The benefits of massage have been widely reported for many years, and even far back into history people believed that gentle, physical manipulation could be beneficial for the body. There is evidence of people using massage from thousands of years ago, and the Chinese in particular are well known for using this type of therapy to treat a wide variety of ailments. So what exactly are the benefits of massage, and what can you hope to gain from this type of treatment during your spa holidays?

A professional massage can benefit many physical conditions

Massage offers fantastic benefits for the muscular and skeletal systems, and can help to increase the recovery time for sports injuries and other damage to the body. Massage can be great for lower back pain and can strengthen and loosen weak or tight muscles. Massage also benefits mobility and can help with joint flexibility and offer relief from spasms and cramps, or tired and sore muscles and joints. Many people who suffer with conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, long-term muscular and bone injuries, asthma and migraine feel huge improvement after receiving a treatment.

Emotionally, regular massage can improve conditions such as depression and anxiety and from the beauty perspective it can improve skin conditions too; by promoting the regeneration of tissue it can help to alleviate scarring, stretch marks and dermatological issues such as eczema and psoriasis. Massage helps to increase nutrient intake and oxygen levels around the body, improves circulation and promotes healing from any injury or surgical procedure – with its effects on the lymphatic system greatly adding to these benefits.

Why massage is so important to our well-being

It’s a commonly held belief in medical circles that a huge proportion of disease and ill health is caused by stress. Therefore, anything we can do to reduce our stress levels can improve our overall health and well-being. Not only is the physical manipulation of massage great for reducing stress, but the therapeutic benefits of simply lying back and taking some time to enjoy peace and quiet can be great for our clarity, judgement and offer us a rare stress-free break from the pressures of life.
So whether you’re looking for a treatment to regenerate, stimulate, alleviate or relax, massage has a huge number of benefits for you to enjoy.

When staying with us here at the Londa Beach Hotel, make the most of your spa holiday and book in with our fully trained staff so that you too can enjoy the many therapeutic benefits of massage and the other fantastic treatments that we offer.

Here are some more unusual ideas of things to do during your holidays in Cyprus – although the blue skies and sunshine come as standard!

Holidays in Cyprus aren’t just about the sunshine!

We’re often found singing the praises of holidays in Cyprus and it’s only natural to assume that we may be slightly biased – but with so many obvious attractions as well as hidden gems, Cyprus holidays have found themselves at the top of many tourists’ wish-lists.
When people think about holidays in Cyprus, it conjures up images of blue seas, blue skies, sunshine and vineyards or olive groves stretching for miles. People also associate Cyprus with romance and history, and rightly so too. However, there are many other ways to pass the time during your visit to Cyprus which will give you an alternative perspective and plenty of more unusual memories to take home with you.

Unusual ideas for your Cyprus holiday

For a bird’s eye view of Cyprus, you can look into taking a hot air balloon flight over the Paphos area; rising with the sun, you’ll be able to see much more of Cyprus in a few hours then you might otherwise get to see over the course of several days! This could also provide the perfect setting for a romantic Cypriot proposal if you’re seeking a really spectacular idea for winning over your loved one. A buggy safari is another great idea if you want something fun and exciting to do while on the island – or for a more sedate experience, you can enjoy a spot of fresh water or sea fishing, perhaps even catching your own dinner for the evening if you’re lucky!

Golf and water sports are very popular on the island, but how about taking one of the beautifully devised nature trails or mountain bike routes, so that you can venture further into the rural areas – and perhaps even spot some of the indigenous bird and animal species? Cyprus can really put stars in your eyes too – with clear nights and a lack of pollution, amateur or even professional astronomers can gaze out into the velvety sky and check out the many thousands of stars that come out to twinkle into the early hours.

Rare sights and common culture

Cyprus is also home to a salt lake which provides a popular feeding spot for flamingos during the winter months – or you can enjoy the rare sight of green and loggerhead turtles who nest on the island every year.

If you really want to immerse yourself in the culture of Cyprus during your holiday, there are plenty of traditional foods and drinks you can try, lots of opportunities to join in with Cypriot folk dancing and singing, or you can simply plan your holiday around one of the many festivals or carnivals that the locals enjoy every year. The Limassol flower festival, festival of the flood, the Green Monday celebrations or any number of musical and theatrical events will provide an awesome experience of our much beloved country.
So what are you waiting for? Book your holiday in Cyprus now and come and join us for a truly breathtaking and unusual experience!

Choosing the best conference facilities is easy if you follow our guide to choosing a venue for your event

Choosing a venue for your conference

With so many top quality, luxury hotels in Cyprus offering conference facilities for your use, it can be hard to know where to start when trying to decide on the best venue for your company’s needs. Therefore, we’ve provided a brief guide to choosing a venue for your conference or business meeting – we hope that it proves to be of help.

Tips for selecting a conference venue

Location, location, location – You could choose the most beautiful venue in the world, but it’s no good if people can’t get there! You need to make sure that your venue is easy for your guests to reach, whether by road, train or plane. You also want to make sure that the venue is in a safe area with access to other activities if required and has enough accommodation to cater for your delegates too.

Image is everything – Think about your company’s brand; does your venue emulate the right kind of vibe and look to support your corporate image? Also consider the people who will be in attendance – will the venue be to their liking? You also need to think about how the staff at your chosen venue will support your event; will they help you to create a good impression with your delegates, or will they be uninvolved and unhelpful if somebody requires assistance?

Conference facilities – However good the venue looks, you need to make sure that they can lay on the correct facilities for your requirements. Do they offer free Internet connection and perhaps the support of a secretary to help with organising and running the event? Do they have up-to-date conference facilities and equipment such as dedicated meeting rooms and overhead projectors? Can you photocopy documents and arrange A/V equipment if needed, or are their conference facilities out of touch and out of time?

Comfort and refreshment – As well as the usual conference facilities, does your potential venue also have the ability to cater adequately for your attendees? Can they offer a food menu that is suitable for everyone and regular refreshments if needed? Do they have air conditioning to make sure everybody is comfortable and parking facilities for those who have arrived by car? Is the accommodation to a good standard and do their conference and meeting rooms allow for a change in layout to make sure everyone can see what’s happening?

Cost and availability – Getting the right venue is essential but you also need to make sure it fits in with your budget and is available on your chosen dates. Find out how far ahead you’d need to book and see if there’s any flexibility for rearranging dates or accommodation if necessary. Make sure that you get a clear breakdown of all your costs; do they offer any discounts, is accommodation given at a reduced rate to delegates? Do the conference facilities all come included in the pricing structure and what options are there for catering costs?

Try the Londa for quality conference facilities in Limassol, Cyprus

Finding the right annual conference facilities doesn’t need to be hard work as long as you consider all of the above points. As one of the leading luxury hotels in Cyprus, here at the Londa we can provide all of the above to help your company create a fantastic impression on your guests.
Whatever your reason for visiting Cyprus, you’ll have your pick of great hotels - in Limassol you can find something for any requirement.

Booking your holiday accommodation – finding the right place for your needs

People travel to Limassol for a variety of reasons, both business and pleasure, and the type of place you choose to stay in will often depend on the purpose of your visit. Before you book your accommodation, you need to think about the kind of facilities you will want access to, your budget and any plans you have for the duration of your stay.

If the purpose of your visit is predominantly business, then you may want to create a good impression with your associates – in which case, you may opt for one of the top luxury hotels in Cyprus to demonstrate both your good taste and financial standing. Additionally, if you’re planning on hosting a meeting or holding a larger event, you’ll need to make sure that your hotel has adequate conference facilities and the associated extras that should come hand in hand, such as fast and reliable Internet connection, bespoke catering options and enough good quality rooms for any guests that need to stay overnight.

Internet access is fast becoming a deciding factor for many other travellers too, not just those visiting on business. With mobile technology becoming so commonplace, solo travellers, couples and those with kids in tow also appreciate being able to check emails, converse with friends on social media platforms and access the never ending supply of information available via smartphones and tablets. This connectivity also allows tourists to plan their itineraries and check on things to do in the area too, which is great if you want to plan your day over breakfast, or according to the day’s weather forecast!

Beach life and cultural adventures

For some holidaymakers, close proximity to the beach is essential, in which case you’ll want to find a beach hotel or somewhere that puts you within easy reach of the sea. Whether this is for romantic sunset strolls, water sports or fun and games with the kids is up to you, but you’ll want to find a hotel that makes it easy to get to the shoreline and back.

If you’re looking for culture or the trappings of city centre living on your break in Cyprus then you’ll need somewhere that puts you close to the main tourist spots and the shops, restaurants and bars. There are plenty of hotels in Limassol that are situated in the central district, so you should easily be able to find a place to suit.

The Londa Beach Hotel suits most travellers

Of course, if you’re looking for luxury hotels in Limassol that fulfil any or all of the above requirements, you can satisfy your needs by choosing the Londa Beach Hotel.
From fine dining in boutique hotels, to traditional tavernas selling the popular Cypriot meze, Cyprus restaurants cater for all tastes.

Fine fare to be found in Cyprus restaurants

Holidays are a time for relaxing and having your every need catered for – and with many high quality Cyprus restaurants to choose from, you can enjoy a break from the kitchen with the added pleasure of not having to do the washing up after you’ve eaten! Cyprus restaurants offer a real taste of the Mediterranean, with local cuisine being heavily influenced by the flavours of Greece – but you’ll also find that Limassol is jam-packed with many international options too, giving you plenty of choice for your lunchtime and evening meals.

If you want to embrace the local culture, the ubiquitous dining experience in most Cyprus restaurants is the all-popular meze, a generous selection of perhaps 20 or 30 dishes which gives you the wonderful opportunity to sample a wide range of Cypriot delicacies in one sitting. Great value for money and the best way to ensure that everyone in your party will find something that they like, the sharing of a meze is a truly social affair, and perfect when accompanied by some of the locally produced wines that the region is famous for.

The sensational Cypriot meze

Your friendly hosts in your chosen Cyprus restaurant will start you off with a selection of tasty dips, such as hummus, taramosalata and talattouri, which you can mop up with pitta or some of the traditional Cypriot breads. While you’re tucking into these, more dishes will start to be brought out; expect an array of salads, olives, potatoes and pickled cauliflower, stuffed vine leaves, meatballs, Cypriot sausage and plenty of vegetables. For many first timers, they think this is the final flourish, but then eyes widen as even more plates of mouth watering foods arrive. Pork, cheeses, a wide choice of seafood and fish, kebabs, moussaka, chicken, lamb and Cypriot stew join the table and everyone starts to realise why it’s so important to pace yourself when eating a meze! The gourmet extravaganza is topped off with plenty of fresh or candied fruit, and usually the loosening of belts onto the next notch!

Alternatives to the Cypriot meze

While a meze is a fantastic way to dine, you will probably want to try other things during your holiday too, in which case, there are plenty of fine dining Cyprus restaurants here in Limassol for you to enjoy. Boutique hotels are ideal if you’re looking for a luxurious night out with great atmosphere and beautiful surroundings – in fact, our very own Caprice Restaurant here at the Londa Beach Hotel is one of the very best of Cyprus restaurants, offering gourmet Italian dining with incredible sea views – so why not book in when you fancy a break from the traditional Cypriot style of eating?
