The heat of the summer has subsided and we see the cyclists are on the road enjoying mountain runs and coastal routes – Londa welcomes you!
Many people come to Cyprus to cycle in autumn and spring due to the amazing climate and huge range of routes available. In fact, it is fast becoming a cyclist mecca with international competitions and races such as the Sunshine Cup.
At the Londa we can put you in touch with cycling clubs and cycle hire companies so whether you are a beginner wanting to tour the coast or more advanced and have a craving to head to the mountainous regions, we can help.
Cycling the coast
From Limassol, the easiest route to follow is the new coastal path, along the main street into Limassol that has a cycling path nearly all the way into the city centre. There is a bike hire facility on the road where you pay from only 2 euro an hour and you can drop the bikes off at any of the city stops – prices and stops are featured on Nextbike. Take a break at any of the new cafes, pass sculpture parks and view the stunning Mediterranean seascape. Going further west than the city will take you on a track to Curium ancient theatre and beach, Akrotiri salt lakes and, if you have real stamina, then maybe you will reach Petra tou Romiou (Aphrodite’s Rock) and even Paphos.
You could however head east toward Larnaca, keeping on the coast to Amathus ancient city, to the glorious Governor’s Beach – said to be where you can swim in the coolest sea water in Cyprus – then on through fishing villages like Zigi and lovely Maroni – perfect for a lunch stop. This is mostly a road route and very pretty, where you get to experience the real agricultural world of the island.
Up the mountain
Limassol is conveniently placed in the shadow of the Troodos Mountains where there are tracks through rough roads and slopes for the mountain biker, and routes through forest glades even up to the highest point of Olympus. The stunning traditional villages, many with Cyprus’ famous wineries and of course, with their local cafenion, are there for your delight.
Meet new friends
Cycling is an exceptionally friendly sport and there are clubs in Limassol that welcome everyone to ride with them. Limassol Cycling Club ride out Sunday morning and Wednesday afternoon, contact them through their Facebook page to see which routes they will take when you are here. And if you want to go alone then take a look at mapmyride for suggestions and lengths of rides.
