The Short Break for Fashionistas

The short break for fashionistas – designer hotel, great shopping and delicious food that won’t increase your waistline – all in the Mediterranean sunshine

Visit the Londa, the new upscale contemporary boutique hotel in Cyprus on the shores of the Mediterranean and enter shopping heaven. Located in Cyprus’s second city Limassol, the Londa has become the place for the fashion-conscious to use as a base for visiting Cypriot boutiques that offer unique designs at a fraction of the UK prices. Perfect when combined with an afternoon by the Londa’s very stylish pool when the hard work is done.

This discreet and refined designer hotel is quietly setting a new fashionable standard for Limassol. In the past dismissed as just an expanded bustling fishing port, the changing face of Cyprus’s second city with its exclusive shopping, vibrant nightlife and wealth of culture in an agreeable climate is now attracting tourists from all over Europe and the Middle East.

The Londa has a very hip restaurant Caprice and chic cocktail bar which have become the place to be seen for the cognoscenti of Cyprus. This stylish restaurant with its minimalist interiors offers Mediterranean cuisine served with a twist, while the bar has a number of icon cocktails and snacks available throughout the day.

Londa’s chef Patric Steklmacher has a passion for food whose cuisine reflects the high style of the hotel and its international guests. This widely travelled Swede uses the best local ingredients from Cyprus combined with influences from the world over; cloudberries from his native Sweden, Asian spices, Italian pasta. Expect delicious dishes that change with the seasons and everything made from scratch in the Londa kitchens. This is gourmet food that is high on taste and presentation but not likely to put on the pounds. Patric’s signature Lobster Salad is ideal for the fashionistas who populate this intimate hotel and the acclaimed summer bar-b-ques on the terrace overlooking the sea attract the smart set from Nicosia and beyond.

The Londa has a hit-list of must visit designer boutiques and jewellery shops in Limassol and will recommend the best bars and nightclubs for a high energy break. Don’t miss Sabrina for superb handmade shoes in St Andrew’s Street. Every style and all colours delivered in one week at enviable prices, or shipped back to the UK. Then stroll a few doors up the street to Mitsu Designs for exceptional dresses and outfits made with unique fabrics and stunning wedding gowns too. Then if you go nowhere else, visit Theodorou Jewellery in Anexartisias Street, still in the same district of Limassol, for fabulous pieces and the opportunity to have your design ideas made to order.

After all that shopping then take a lazy afternoon by the pool or in the Londa’s spa. Now revived take dinner at Karatello for a typical Cypriot meze and end the evening with dancing close-by at the Fabrique Club or at Notes.

The Londa re-opened 18 months ago following a complete multi-million pound refurbishment by an Italian design team, Caruzzi Rancati. The result is a modern and elegant hotel where sleek white marble has been used throughout the entrance and lobby, accented with black wood pathways leading down to the sea. The highly unique style of the Londa shows influences from the heritage of the island and from the Mediterranean including Cypriot lace, antique filigree silver and local wood. The mix of styles and lighting in the lobby are all designed to highlight the view, emphasised by the huge glass panels that maximise light into the building.

Furnishings follow neutral shades and clean lines, while the 68 rooms and suites are given vibrant accents of colour and texture. Rooms boast either stunning panoramic sea-views or look out over the town of Limassol and Troodos Mountains beyond. All have five star touches to complete the luxury experience, including Nespresso coffee machines, luxury Molton Brown cosmetics, high speed internet access and cordless phone. Wi-fi connection is available in the lobby area and across the ground floor through to the pool decks overlooking the sea.

The body conscious use the Londa’s health and fitness centre with its comprehensive fitness and revitalisation programme with access to the spa with sauna, steam bath, plunge pool and Jacuzzi. Spa treatments feature the French DARPHIN skincare philosophy that uses plant extracts and botanical aromas. This is a unique multi-sensory approach to beauty and skin care and highly recommended. For the more energetic the gym features a range of exercise facilities, including cardiovascular and strength equipment. -ends-
